Creating a platform that joins people together requires trust between Skippers and Crew.  We have established community standards to help guide the behaviour that is expected within our community.

We are constantly updating and refining these standards to meet the needs of our community.  There are five main standards that underpin Boatigo - safety, security, fairness, authenticity and reliability.  We're always doing our best to ensure they are upheld and enforced.

Safety

Great Boatigo experiences are only possible when you trust the community and feel safe.  As a result, we require that you refrain from endangering or threatening anyone in any way.

Skipper's Instructions

It is important that Crew listen to and abide by Skipper's instructions at all times throughout the trip.  If Crew are asked to assist in any way, and they are competent to do so, Skippers greatly appreciate this.

Harming yourself or others

You should not commit physical or sexual assault, sexual abuse, sexual harassment, robbery, human trafficking, other acts of violence, or hold anyone against their will.  Members of dangers organisations, including terrorist, organised criminal, and violent racists groups, are not welcome in this community.  Boatigo is committed to working with all law enforcement as appropriate and responding to valid law enforcement requests.

Threatening anyone

You should not convey any intent to harm anyone by means of words or physical actions.

Creating hazardous situations

You should not keep unsecured weapons, disease risks, or dangerous animals in your vessel, nor should you create conditions that increase the likelihood of a fire or impede escape in the event of an emergency.

Security

Our Skippers share their vessels and boating / fishing knowledge and experiences.  Despite if you are sharing your boat as a Skipper or experiencing a Skipper's hospitality as Crew on board, you should trust that you will feel secure on the trip.  We ask that you respect other's property, information and personal belongings.

Theft, vandalism, or extortion

You should not take property that isn't yours, use someone's property without their permission, copy other's identity documents, damage other's property, or threaten anyone with bad ratings or any other penalty or harm to obtain compensation or other benefits.

Spam, phishing, or fraud

You should not commit fraud, credit card fraud, or launder money; attempt to drive traffic to other sites or make unrelated products; divert contributions meant for others; or make false claims against other members of the community.

Spam, phishing, or fraud

You should respect other people's privacy and ask permission before taking pictures or video footage of other people when on trips.  You should not access other's accounts or violate other's privacy, copyrights, or trademarks.

Fairness

The boating and fishing community is diverse.  Fairness makes it possible for us to trust each other within the community.

Discriminatory behaviour or hate speech

Behaving in a respectful way is easy to do, just treat people as you would like to be treated.  The community has a diverse mixture of people, beliefs and viewpoints.  You should treat everyone with respect at all times.  You should follow all applicable laws and not treat others differently because of their race, ethnicity, national origin, religious affiliation, sexual orientation, sex, gender, gender identity, or disability.  Similarly, insulting others based on these is not allowed.

Bullying or harassing others

The way you act is key to the enjoyment and comfort other community members experience.  Everyone appreciates their own personal space and privacy, and this is no different when interacting with Boatigo community members.  Communication is a big part of Boatigo and while we very much encourage chatting, be mindful of comments about a persons appearance or personal questions.

Also, it might be best so steer discussions away from divisive topics like religion or politics. You don't want to inadvertently make a community member feel discriminated against or offended. Some things we like to keep private, and that’s ok!

Remember that a Boatigo trip is just that.  A trip.  Afterwards, contact between the two parties involved should end unless there is lost property involved.  Unwanted contact outside of the Boatigo trip can potentially be seen as harassment, so ensure that you respect your fellow community members privacy and personal space.

You should not share personal information to shame or blackmail others, target others with unwanted behaviour, or defame others.

Authenticity

Boatigo trips should be an exciting experience on the water.  Authenticity within our community is essential - it requires a balance of shared expectations, honesty and accurate details.

Misrepresenting yourself

You should not provide a false name, date of birth, identity documents or boat registration.  You should not maintain duplicate accounts, or create an account if you are under the age of 18.

Misrepresenting your vessel

You should not provide inaccurate information about your vessel, have incorrect availability, mislead Crew about the type, nature, or details of your listing, set up fake or fraudulent listings, leave fraudulent reviews, engage in deceptive pricing or fail to disclose hazards.

Reliability

Boatigo experiences are unique - different vessels, locations and Skippers.  The community makes commitments and trips based on these details and we have to be able to trust in each other's reliability - bit it timely communication, the condition of a vessel or the expectations that are set.

Providing poor conditions

You should not provide vessels with sub-standard cleanliness or poor overall conditions.

Breaking commitments

Aside from extenuating circumstances, you should not cancel after the deadline set out in the cancellation policy.  You should also not fail to make the designated time for trip commencement, fail to contribute or break the Skipper's rules.

Be unresponsive

You should not have persistently low ratings and reviews, be unresponsive during Crew requests or throughout a trip, fail to provide an adequate point of contact for being a Skipper, or refuse to participate in our resolution process.
